Mental Health Awareness Week

18th – 24th May 2020

Mental health issues affect a great number of people around the world. According to the World Health Organization, one of four people experiences mental illness at some point in their lives. At the same time, 800,000 people commit suicide each year globally. Suicide is the second leading cause of death among people 15-29 years old, which suggests that the young population is particularly vulnerable. Mental health experts believe that fear, lack of understanding and mental health stigma prevent individuals from seeking help for their mental health issues.

Good mental health is key to academic and professional success, healthy relationships, happiness, and life satisfaction. An open conversation about mental health issues helps remove the stigma around mental illness.
